I was courious if you know anything about the actual manufacturing cost of Coach bags. When I found out they were made in China it really turned me off. Something tells me they are being made for about $3.00 – $5.00 each and then marked up for a huge profit. For some reason Coach has gotten into womens brains as some very special item. I think it is because they sell for so much money and are a status symbol. Am I wrong or missing something here?

Many people ask this kind of question but let me tell you Coach have there own quality and they never cheat you. Here I am talking about the original one. If they are taking money from you they are providing you with the world’s best leather, quality and look. $3 and $5 as you are talking are the pricing for the production of fake coach handbags.

How do I go about getting let’s say an ‘irregular bags’? Cause it is frustating that if you go to the Dooney & Bourke site they have there sale/discontinued items for sale; and they offer a trade-in special. But I like Coach and have few already, but my taste and my bills are not mixing well. So any advise would be helpful.

To follow up on Jeff’s question…are they manufactured in China. I was under they were an Italian based manufacturing firm. To me Coach is so middle of the road in design and status I don’t understand the value of the brand Coach especially if they are a Chinese import. Do you know where they are truly manufactured?

First let me say I do believe that the designs have evolved but I’m still in line with Jeff. If you can buy a bag at 30 some odd dollars whole sale and do a 2.3 – 2.5 mark up (standard retail) it puts you at around what Coach retails for in department stores. How do you tell the fakes if they are all manufactured in China, the Mecca of knock offs.

Just purchased a Coach handbag in a major city. Went through an ‘interesting’ experience to the underground to make this purchase. How do I know if what I bought was truly a Coach or a fake? What tells me, on the purse, that this is authentic?

I hate to break it to you, but if you bought it at some kind of underground shady place in a major city it is a fake. There may be a small possibility it was a real one and was stolen, but 99.9% is was a knock-off. I bought them all through college before I could afford the real thing and it was always some kind of shady deal in a back room in Chinatown, and the leather is not real and they always fall apart quickly. I wouldn’t buy one on Ebay either, unless you are ok with getting a fake. I hope you didn’t pay too much for it! Pretty much only Coach stores and a few major department stores sell the real deal. If it was a fake, the leather will almost certainly be synthetic, and the C’s will be embroidered more cheaply. On a real Coach the C’s are done with many small, tight stitches and on most fakes it is only one long stitch going vertically from the top to the bottom of the C, if that makes sense. The long stitches tend to snag and look raggedy quickly but a real Coach will wear well for years. The fakes also tend to come with metal Coach tags instead of leather. Real ones may have a metal one but there will also be a leather one with it. Also, many of the fakes have the word Coach stamped on every single piece of metal hardware to make it look more authentic I guess, and the real ones don’t do this. Good luck next time!

My father in law has been in the philippines and recently returned with a few coach purses for us girls. I think they’re fake but my sister thinks they’re real due to the bar code and having coach information packet with it. How can I tell the difference?

i found online that real coach bags the pattern starts in the center and works its way out so if there is not a logo in the center of the front or back of the bag it is fake.

go on the coach website, get the 1-800 number tell the customer service rep. the serial number inside the bag and they will tell you if it is real or not.

Great Blog! I was also wondering what Jeff was asking about the quality & the fact the real ones are made in China. But i have never heard a complaint from anyone about an actual coach bag!
